Born in the Twin Cities of Minneapolis to a Kuwait-raised father and a Kentucky-born mother both of Bangladeshi Muslim heritage, Raneem learned early on the value of channeling diverse life experiences through storytelling and expression. She spent her childhood and young adulthood moving between and attending school in very different places: the quiet redwoods and rural edges of Santa Rosa in Northern California, the eclectic hippie-retiree city of Sebastopol, the meticulously planned suburbs of Irvine in Orange County, the bustling high pressure academic world of Dhaka, Bangladesh, and a close-knit Catholic all-girls school in the heart of Little Arabia, Anaheim. Later at 16, she attended community college during the COVID pandemic before transferring to the college town of University of California, Berkeley where she graduated in May 2025.

Along the way, Raneem picked up countless interests and stories, many of which have centered around art, the natural environment, and activism. Raised by an artistically inclined family that included a touring shoegaze band drummer, harmonium players, dancers and painters, she has always sought to find her own creative voice as well. Drawn to the childlike wonder found in the larger-than-life Sequoia redwoods, drives to Bodega Bay and the Bandarban cloudforests, she loves to capture the passing moment through field artwork on hikes and while traveling—watercolor and ink tending to be her most reached-for mediums, with occasional hand-built ceramics and multimedia sculptural work. She has taught workshops on bookbinding using used volumes from antique stores, botanical illustration, printmaking, and environmental stewardship. Inspired by a history of political engagement by family members, Raneem also uses her art and writing to explore themes of grief during genocide, resistance, liberation, and community. Currently she is learning Spanish, guitar and drums and always up for a spontaneous side quest or project. ¡ Somos el tiempo que nos queda !
